MLG helps to Re-engineer Pump Manufacturing

Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps (IDP), the worldwide operation formed by the merging of the pump manufacturing businesses of Ingersoll-Rand and Dresser Industries, is committed to Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) throughout all its plants. In the UK MLG has assisted the company's two facilities. (IDP has since been purchased by Flowserve)

Ian Henderson and David Morgan assisted in the initial business process reviews at the Newark plant, and Ian then acted as project manager for phase 1 of the reengineering activity, in which a series of identified process improvements have been handled. This project, building upon the site's previous progress in Total Quality, focused on the two key issues of 'one stop shopping' (that is, as many tasks as possible within any process are handled in one pass by one person or team), and managing by exception. Phase 2 was subsequently focused on the selection and implementation of new business systems to support the future process vision.

David and Ian have also assisted at Gateshead, where the initial emphasis is on replacing the company's existing systems. The future processes were developed and documented with input from MLG, and David is currently assisting in the management of the company's major IT strategy project. Ian is providing ad hoc input in the specialist areas of Production Management and Purchasing.

The company's UK Managing Director, Owen Turner, commented, "IDP is a leading player in the world of pump manufacturing, and we are committed to maintaining our competitiveness through continuous improvement. We recognise that not all the focus of change can come from within, and value MLG's contribution to our continued progress."
